Family & Community Engagement

Family Systems and Dynamics (FAM) is 1 of the 12 content areas identified within the 2014 WI Core Competencies for Professionals Working with Young Children and their Families. This competency focuses on professionals understanding the complexity and diversity of family relationships, dynamics, and systems while working in partnership with families for the best interest of children.

Family and Community Relationships (COM) is 1 of the 12 content areas identified within the 2014 WI Core Competencies for Professionals Working with Young Children and their Families. This competency focuses on professionals understanding the value of partnership and collaboration between families and agencies/ organizations to meet child and family needs.

Families, however, are part of a bigger community & multiple systems that impact that role. When professionals in early care & education have an understanding of these complex relationships, they will be better able to meet the needs of the child through culturally responsive interactions with the child’s family.
