For Physicians

Wisconsin’s efforts around developmental screening training for physicians and their care teams began in 2006 with the release of the American Academy of Pediatrics’ Policy statement on developmental screening and surveillance.

Since that time, several hundred Wisconsin pediatric primary care providers and their care teams have learned how to use the Ages and Stages developmental screening questionnaire within well child care in order to promote the early identification of children with delays and timely referral to appropriate supports and services. This work has been supported by various state and national funding sources, including WI Department of Health Services Children and Youth with Special Health Care Needs Program, UW-Madison Waisman Center, and Centers for Disease Control.

Current physician outreach around developmental screening is occurring through the Wisconsin Statewide Medical Home Initiative and Project LAUNCH.
