While it took time to get off the ground, a planning committee persisted and worked closely with community preschool programs to establish a four-year-old preschool in the Portage School District. Now in its second year, the program offers parents in the Portage school district several program options: two school located classrooms, a parent cooperative preschool, a private preschool and a Head Start program.

The school district contracts with the preschool programs for child slots.
