This
three-module course is designed to increase knowledge of the
process of ongoing assessment and provide opportunities to
practice various assessment strategies.
Participant Learning Goals:
Module 1
- Participants will understand the background of current
federal accountability requirements and the importance of
ongoing assessment as the basis for good instruction as
well as the basis for accountability data.
Module 2
- Participants will distinguish between five purposes of
assessment for young children;
- Participants will discuss what ongoing assessment includes;
- Participants will discuss four principles that guide ongoing
assessment and the basis for these principles from recommendations
for practice from NAEYC and DEC;
- Participants with consider the role of commercial assessment
instruments in ongoing assessment and will review the Assessment
Resource handout 2.3.
Module 3
- Participants will review strategies for observing and
documenting child progress;
- Participants will discuss strategies for gathering information
from families and other service providers for ongoing assessment;
- Participants will consider strategies for ensuring that
the results of ongoing assessment are used to inform instructional
planning.
